Personal Reflection

Throughout this class, I have developed many skills regarding Classroom Management that I had not thought of before. I learned a lot about student behavior and how to proactively prevent inappropriate behavior by having set rules, positive reinforcement systems, and engaging lessons. I learned about the importance of implementing rules, routines, and procedures within the first day, week, and month to make the class day easy-going and predictable for my students. I learned a lot about how important it is to keep my lesson goals clear and consistent and different strategies to help students from traumatic backgrounds, English Language Learners, and students with disabilities. We also touched on how important it is to know your students' names, let them tell stories about their own experiences, and provide texts and assignments that reflect every student in the class. I am curious about how I can better support gifted students or how to respond when students finish their work significantly earlier than the class average. I also cannot wait to learn more about how teachers work to create relationships with every student when they have as many as 150 students a year. I would love to learn more about how a teacher organizes her desk and how she decides which assignments to grade for correctness and which to grade as participation.
