Thank you so much for covering my classes today! My students are aware of the expectations for a substitute. Hopefully, you will not have any problems. However, if you do, please leave me specific names and comments.
Below I have provided the bell schedules and attendance. Please see the list of rules and expectations on the wall next to the bookshelf. Also, please note that students should begin working on their Bell Work quietly as soon as the bell rings. They know the routine by now. Please take attendance while they are quietly working on their Bell Work and send it to the office. I will bold the name of the kid who you should send it with on the attendance sheet for each class.
1st hour (8:30-9:25) - English
2nd hour (9:30-10:25) - English
3rd hour (10:30-11:25) - English
4th hour (11:30-12:25) - Prep
Lunch (12:30-12:55)
5th hour (1:00-1:55) - Psychology
6th hour (2:00-2:55) - Psychology
English - At the beginning of class, have the students journal about their progress on the Shark Tank project. Post questions on the board such as "Where are you at with the project?" and "What is a question or comment you have regarding the project?" After the students have finished their bell work, go over the schedule I have written on the board, and allow them independent or group work time to research sources for their inventions. Toward the end of class, give a short lesson on Simple and Compound sentences using the resources I have provided below.
Psychology - These students are learning about the different parts of the brain, so they will be working on their visual representations of the brain. You can ask them a Bell Work question, like "What part of the brain do you think you are using the create this project and why?" As they are finishing up Bell Work, let them work in their groups to get ahead on this project. If anyone finishes early, you can have them start the packet.
Thanks again,
Libby

SUBSTITUTE PLANS - Classroom Procedures
Arrival
Students are welcome to talk up until the bell rings. When the bell rings, students should be sitting quietly in their seats working on the Bell Work that I have on the whiteboard.
Tardy
If a student is tardy to class and he/she does not have a note or excuse slip from another teacher or school personnel, please make a note for me as I will have to talk with them about why they were tardy.
Absence
If a student has an unexcused absence, he/she is expected to spend a lunch period with me catching up on work, so please let me know, and I will fit that into my schedule when I return.
Homework
Students are expected to turn in their homework on time in the correct bin, depending on their hour. If a student does not turn in homework, they will receive a zero in the gradebook and spend lunch with me or another teacher working on the assignment until it is turned in. If a student comes to me ahead of time explaining why they need extra time, it may be allotted depending on the reason. I will let you know if any students are allowed extra time for the assignments due on the day you are subbing.
SUBSTITUTE PLANS – General Instructions
Passes
As a general rule, we do not allow passes to use the restroom. If it is an emergency, then please let the student go. No one goes to his or her locker for any reason.
Tardy/Late Arrival
Students are expected to be in their seats working on the Bell Work when the bell rings. If students are not, they are tardy. Please note this on the attendance form.
Fire drill
If you have a fire drill, take the red plastic folder posted on the white board by the door - it has the class lists. When you walk out of the classroom go straight towards the exit sign and take a left. Head out the front door exit and take a right and go around the building.
LOCKDOWN
If we have one of these, an announcement will come over the loudspeaker - if we have one it is probably a drill. If it is a drill, it will last about 20 minutes. Immediately shut the door which should be locked. If a student is in the bathroom, he or she might not get back to you - that’s OK. They have just gone to another room. You need to make a list to hand to an administrator of the students missing from class, including those students who you have marked absent. Class lists and the lockdown drill attendance sheets are in the red folder by the door.
DAILY DUTIES
All of the teachers must stand outside their classrooms in between each class.
